Wythenshawe’s community spirit has been praised after a fire at an industrial unit left about 500 homes and businesses without power yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the blaze in a tunnel on Southmoor Road carrying high voltage cables at 11.46am today. Six fire engines were at the scene.
Momma B’s restaurant on Portway, Woodhouse Park was one of many businesses affected by the power cut but helped to provide meals for elderly and vulnerable people in the area.
The restaurant stepped in after getting a plea for help from Wythenshawe Community Housing Group.
They cooked the meals and delivered them to the housing groups offices who then fed local people in the area, prompting praise from councillor, Sarah Judge.
